Bottegasonora (literally, something like "sonorous handycraft-workshop"), is the pseudonym of Luca Ricatti. I'm an italian independent musician who writes, produces and spreads his music on the internet, to follow an handycraft way of artistic production, in opposition with entertainment industry.

I produced three albums: Canzoni ambient per chitarra elettrica (2003), the EP No Ordinary day (2007) and Disco Naïf (2008, available the 2009 version, called "Rebuilt version").

I wrote music for theater, shorts and documentaries and worked for almost 10 years with the folk-singer Paolo Coppini.
From 2009 I produce music softwares.

Currently I'm working to mys 4th album: it will be released in october 2010 and will be titled Black Sheep electro music.

Disco Naïf

Dietro a Bottegasonora si nasconde Luca Ricatti, classe 77, musicista romano. All’età di 16 anni inizia a studiare musica e si esibisce come cantante e chitarrista nelle rock band studentesche. Le sue passioni musicali cominciano con i Soundgarden, e il classico Kurt Cobain, arrivando fino ai Chemical B. ai Prodigy e ai dischi dei Daft Punk e all’elettronica in generale, cercando anche il modo di sperimentarla da solo. Disco Naïf è il terzo lavoro di Bottegasonora che viene definito da lui stesso “un esercizio di fantasia” e non trovo espressione migliore di questa. Le melodie mescolate, la voce che appare solo ogni tanto, ricordi di sonorità passate, come se volesse riprendere i suoni che uscivano dalla radio e dalla televisione in un tempo passato. Utilizza pochi strumenti, ma cerca di cambiare le mescolanze in ogni traccia. Se si ha una passione per l’elettronica Disco Naïf è di ottimo ascolto, piacevole colonna sonora, interessanti le leggere sfumature che si delineano tra una traccia e l’altra, da non sottovalutare.

No ordinary day

«'Bottegasonora' - an italian word meaning something like 'Sonorous handicraft store' - is the musical self of Luca Ricatti, a Rome living musician who usually writes music for theatre plays and documentaries, but this time wanted to get away from his stressful day-to-day by writing a mini-concept album about what could be one out-of-the-ordinary day.
It starts with 'Late awake' and an alarm going off, ordering Luca to get off the bed. The day starts frantic with polyrhythmic beats and drum'n'bass style drums, but some soft guitars too, Luca likes them a lot. After that, Luca has to 'Drive to go to work', so he doesn't get there late as usual. This time we get some manic keyboards and basslines, as Luca tries to avoid the lunacy that is car traffic in Rome (and all of Italy, for that matter...). Maybe Luca's car starts floating near the end, because the track gets quite ethereal, a minute before he decides 'Leavin' the car, takin' a bicycle'. A cool decision, right? We must think global these days, and treat mother earth nice. Again, we are graced with Luca's guitars and he tried to mimic the feeling of bicycle riding, by panning the sound from left to right, and left again. Luca says he got this idea from 'In the Court of the Crimson King', back when he was a teenager listening to prog-rock. Yeah, yeah. Luca now has arrived to his work (we assume) and after another full day, he returns home, and there is already 'Night under the stars', a soothing melody made of guitar plucks and keyboard lines. But before wishing Luca good night and sweet dreams, there's still time to listen to 'Herbario nuovo', because Luca loves old technical illustration books, like the ones test tube takes some drawings from. L'Italie s'invite sur le netlabel TestTube. Bottegasonora, nouveau pensionnaire, c'est à la fois, dans un grand bordel organisé, un clin-d'oeil à la musique concrète, un retour aux sources de l'intelligent electro du milieu des années 90, un léger condensé des apports pop tels qu'on en a entendus du côté des Etats-Unis durant cette même période. Bottegasonora, c'est un peu foutraque mais pas forcément désagréable. Mariage de sons clean à d'autres plutôt crades. Structures assez classiques avec un mastering étonnant.

La 68ème sortie du toujours excellent netlabel portugais Test tube est l’oeuvre d’un italien du nom de Bottegasonora. Ce musicien romain (de son vrai nom Luca Ricatti) écrit habituellement de la musique pour le théâtre, des expositions ou des documentaires. Il nous propose ici un charmant ep en forme de concept autour d’une journée ordinaire de la semaine. Réveil, petit déjeuner, voiture, boulot… tout ça exprimé avec une musique électronique très douce, accompagnée de guitare et de percussions;Une musique pleine de mélodies légères, avec la particularité d’avoir des titres très différents les uns des autres. bref, le genre d'album assez inclassable... Au total 5 titres plus une video pour se rendre compte de tout le talent de ce garçon.

Herbario Nuovo

O vídeo concebido para acompanhar “Herbario Nuovo” adequa-se magistralmente às paisagens visuais para que o título da música remete. Tal como nos livros antigos de ilustrações técnicas de plantas e ervas, detecta-se por ali um certo deslumbramento pela inocência da natureza. A faixa transporta o ouvinte para um ambiente semelhante ao de uma peça de teatro. Também não admira: Luca Ricatti, o músico romano por detrás de Bottegasonora, costuma compor música para peças de teatro, exposições e documentários. Se os outros quatro temas que preenchem o EP No Ordinary Day demonstram uma tentativa deliberada de conciliar os sons digitais produzidos em computador com instrumentos tradicionais como guitarras e percussão, pode-se dizer que “Herbario Nuovo” é a mais orgânica delas.

Publicado em Março deste ano pela netlabel portuguesa Test Tube segundo uma licença CC-BY-NC-ND 3.0, este EP consiste num trabalho conceptual centrado naquilo que poderia ser uma narrativa sonora de um dia bastante invulgar, desde o acordar ao adormecer passando por conturbadas desventuras nas ruas de uma grande cidade.

Suoni di lentezza (Canzoni ambient per chitarra elettrica)

Luca Ricatti (in arte Bottegasonora) afferma che il suo “Suoni di lentezza” sia ispirato al recupero della dimensione del tempo naturale, ormai scomparsa dal vivere quotidiano della realtà urbanizzata. Ecco perché questo disco, scritto per chitarra e onde sonore come installazione sonora all’interno di un’esperienza multisensoriale romana (“I codici segreti dell’olfatto”, 2007) è un bellissimo viaggio negli anfratti più reconditi della percezione umana, spesso tracimante al di là dei convenzionali cinque sensi. I suoni si fanno rarefatti (le cui frequenze sonore spesso si avvicinano a quelle cerebrali) ma rimangono flessibili sia per la pace dell’orecchio umano sia come arredamento ambientale ideale. Basti pensare a pezzi come “Il cielo sulla valle” o “La valle sotto il cielo” o a “Cerchi concentrici” per capire l’intento artistico di Luca Ricatti, mirante a pacificare l’ormai logora collocazione dell’uomo col proprio contesto originario: la natura, una natura qui esaltata, indagata, spiegata, ma mai plagiata o violentata. In copertina troviamo una foto di una famosissima opera land art di Robert Smithson.
